What Real REMAX Group Changes for RE/MAX Agents and Franchisees, and When

Updated

Bottom line: Real completed its purchase of RE/MAX Holdings in August 2026. The companies say the REMAX brand, franchise model and broker/owner model stay, and Real's platform and services are offered on an opt-in basis.

When did the Real and REMAX deal close?

Real Estate News reported the agreement from an April 27 statement, with closing planned for the back half of 2026 once regulators and the shareholders of both companies approved it. The RE/MAX release put customary closing conditions on that list as well.

Those steps then came in order. Real Estate News reported that antitrust regulators at the federal level had signed off by mid-July, that shareholders at both companies voted for the deal at meetings on Aug. 14, and that on Aug. 24 the two companies told the SEC every customary closing condition had been met.

HousingWire reported that shares of the combined company began trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker REAX from Aug. 25, 2026. In its April report, HousingWire said the new holding company would be based in Miami, with significant operations staying in the Denver area.

What stays the same for REMAX agents and franchisees?

In its April release, RE/MAX said REMAX and Motto Mortgage would keep operating under their current brands, Real would stay an owned brokerage under its own name, and franchisees would keep their existing business model and brand identity.

After closing, Real Estate News reported the chief executive saying the REMAX brand, the balloon and the independent broker/owner model are staying, and that the REMAX franchise model continues too. Real Estate News also reported him listing Real's brand, its model, its platform, its commission structure, revenue share and its equity programs as staying in place.

Do REMAX agents have to use reZEN or Real's other services?

HousingWire reported at the announcement that an agent under either the Real or the REMAX brand was expected to get access to reZEN, Real's transaction management and back-office platform, plus AI tools and money services including Real Wallet.

In interviews Real reprinted in a September 2026 securities filing, Poleg said the platform, Real Wallet, One Real Mortgage and One Real Title would be offered across the whole REMAX network. Participation is opt-in, he said, and an office that takes up none of it can keep everything the same.

Will Real recruit agents out of REMAX offices?

Poleg said in the same interviews that measures would be put in place to protect REMAX businesses and keep Real from taking agents from REMAX.

HousingWire reported at closing that the firm plans to grow by attracting new agents, building referrals and collaboration across its 180,000-agent network and renewing the REMAX brand, rather than counting on agents moving between the two. HousingWire added that the group pledged to guard the existing businesses and independence of its agents and franchisees, and to tell its network about changes early and directly.

Where does a Houston team on Real fit into this?

Houston Properties Team is powered by Real Brokerage and has worked in Houston since 2002. Real's programs carry on after closing, so the Real our team runs on is the same one it ran on before the deal.

If you lead a REMAX team or office in Houston, the decisions in front of you are the ones the group put on the table: which Real services to opt in to, if any, and when. We are glad to talk through the Real side with you on a first call.

Questions & answers

What do Houston agents ask about this?

What changes for RE/MAX agents after the Real merger?

Mostly the options, going by what the companies have said. The RE/MAX release said REMAX and Motto Mortgage keep their brands and franchisees keep their business model. Real Estate News reported the chief executive saying the REMAX brand, the balloon and the broker/owner model stay. What is new is access: Poleg said Real's platform and financial services are offered to the REMAX network, and taking them up is optional.

The deal closed in August 2026. Real Estate News reported that the companies told the SEC on Aug. 24 that every customary closing condition had been met, after federal antitrust clearance by mid-July and shareholder votes at both companies on Aug. 14. HousingWire reported that the combined company began trading on the Nasdaq as REAX from Aug. 25, 2026. HousingWire also reported the group's pledge to communicate changes early and directly and to keep an ongoing dialogue with its network. The announcements to watch are the ones that come from the group itself.

Do RE/MAX agents have to switch to reZEN after the Real deal?

No, according to what Real's side has said. HousingWire reported at the announcement that agents under either brand were expected to gain access to reZEN, Real's transaction and back-office platform. In interviews Real reprinted in a September 2026 securities filing, Poleg said none of it is mandatory, and that an office opting in to nothing can keep everything as it is.

Poleg said the offer to the whole REMAX network also covers Real Wallet and Real's mortgage and title businesses, alongside the platform. HousingWire's announcement report also listed AI tools among what agents were expected to get. The choice sits with the franchisee and the agent: opt in to one piece, several pieces, or none.

Does RE/MAX keep its name and franchise model after the Real acquisition?

Yes, on the companies' stated terms. The RE/MAX release said REMAX and Motto Mortgage continue under their current brands and franchisees keep their business model and brand identity. After closing, Real Estate News reported the chief executive saying the REMAX brand and balloon stay, as do the independent broker/owner model and the franchise model.

Real keeps its own model too. Real Estate News reported the same executive saying Real's brand, platform, commission structure, revenue share and equity programs stay in place, and the RE/MAX release said Real continues as an owned brokerage under the Real brand. HousingWire reported that the two sit under one holding company planned for Miami, with significant operations remaining in the Denver area.

Will Real try to pull agents out of RE/MAX offices?

Poleg said in interviews Real reprinted in a September 2026 securities filing that measures would be put in place to protect REMAX businesses so that Real does not take agents from REMAX. HousingWire reported at closing that the firm would grow by attracting new agents, strengthening referrals across its 180,000-agent network and renewing the REMAX brand, rather than relying on agents moving between the two.

HousingWire also reported the group's commitment to protecting the existing businesses and independence of agents and franchisees. For a franchisee in Houston, the measures themselves are the thing to ask about as the group announces them.
